Description:

The most widely distributed member of the rail family, the Common Gallinule inhabits marshes and ponds. Vocal and boldly marked, the species can be quite conspicuous, sometimes using its long toes to walk atop floating vegetation. A dark bird, with white flank stripe and a triangular red bill and forehead.

Habitat:

On Willow Pond by the platform rookery in Jungle Gardens (Bird City). This one left the pond quickly to escape being an alligator meal.
