Field Notes

Description:

Brown with darker area over tail. Underside of tail and belly white. Common in more remote areas of Long Island as well as in the more natural parks. No natural predators left on Long Island for them (other than humans). Some of the parks have feeding stations with tick repellent for the deer as ticks are a big problem here.

Habitat:

Woodlands in Connetquot State Park, New York.

Notes:

The deer in this park are fairly shy. I was standing in a small clearing just off trail when two does and three older fawns came trotting towards the edge. They didn't see me at first but spooked when they heard the camera clicking (hence the action shots).
