Field Notes
Description:
Medium sized fly. Black head and thorax, bright red abdomen. Grayish translucent wings. Black femurs with yellow tibia.
Habitat:
Woodlands. Several seen landing and flying along the trail. Connetquot State Park, New York.
Notes:
I tried to get a picture of one flying but was unsuccessful.
