Field Notes

Description:

Females have a red-brown fur with black face, grey crown and white eyebrow patches. They are primary arboreal and live in groups, eating leaves, twigs, bark, sap, insects, fruit, etc. This female is eating a tamarind seed pod. Usually give birth to one young after approx. 4 month gestation.

Habitat:

This sighting was in the southwest area of Madagascar in Berenty Reserve, which is primarily dry spiny forest. However, there are some areas of canopy forest interspersed and these are home to the brown lemurs and sifakas.
