Field Notes

Description:

Tuft of heart-shaped leaves, upright stem. Plant slightly hairy throughout. Leaves 2–3 in. wide, with shallow lobes, sharp teeth; stem leaves become smaller and clasp stem. Flower spike 1-sided, with many flowers. Flower in a deep cup with deeply fringed petals opened flat, white lightly tinted with green or sometimes red, very fragrant.

Habitat:

Grows in moist forests, along streams, below treeline.

Notes:

According to the description above, the flowers are very fragrant. I didn't know it when I spotted this, so next time, I will definitely smell it!
