Description:

Large, elegant heron with blue-gray back, black sides, and gray-and-white striped belly. Long neck is gray with black-bordered white throat stripe. Head has white face, cap, and black crest. Upper mandible is dark, while lower mandible is yellow. Direct flight on steady wing beats.

No. It is a large Corps of Engineers Lake built to provide water to the Dallas area, but the area where these sightings were is considered a park of sorts. The shallow waters, sandy beach and small islands seem to be very attractive to water birds, both resident and migratory, as well as a variety of other wildlife.
Nice series. Is Lake Lewisville a protected area?
