Field Notes

Description:

Shy and small deer, some 80 cm in shoulder height, and earthly-brown with distinguished white undertail. Buck can develop short antlers, about 30 cm in length, with 2 to 4 points.

Habitat:

Common sight in lower Alps and Jura; here seen from quite far away on alpine pastures, in French Alps.

From the end of your comment, I believe a positive ID would be the "Tromelin Island Bug." Genus unknown :-)

Hi Zlatan. It seems trying to identify "your" Tromelin Island, as opposed to the one surrounded by water in the Indian Ocean, is harder than identifying some of the spottings here on PN. I chased it around for a while and came up with nothing, except that Tromelin Island (Indian Ocean) is administered by the French. Anyway, thanks for the fotos of the deer.

ahahahahah, Thanks Sukanya - to be honest, I was curious about this Tromelin island, have no idea where it can be... I know of one in Indian ocean near Madagascar, but I've never (yet) set foot there. There must be some bug with maps; these photos are from French Alps
