Field Notes

Description:

Can get to 6 feet in long, and are the largest of all species of otters. They have a white splotch on their chest that is different of each giant otter. They live in family groups that are usually around 3 to 8 members.
These guy look friend and cute, but they are wild animals. There have been reporting of this type of otter scarring away predators like spectacled caiman because it was to close to the families den.
They are endangered because of humans over fishing; mercury entering in the rivers they live in; poaching; and of course deforestation.

Habitat:

This photo was taken at Zoo Miami, Florida. In the Amazon and Beyond section of the zoo.
