Field Notes

Description:

A new bird for me. In some areas it is known as the Slate-colored Mockingbird. This species is named for its cat-like call. Gray Catbirds are relatives of mockingbirds and thrashers, and they share that group’s vocal abilities, copying the sounds of other species and stringing them together to make their own song.

Habitat:

Protected area with deciduous woods and a river. Chagrin River Park, Lake Metroparks systems, Willoughby, Ohio, Lake County, USA

I did see quite a few while visiting High Island, TX for the Spring migration madness!
I saw one migrating thru my backyard before the storm hits this morning- West Houston, TX...it was neat to see one!
I can understand why. As I am new to birding I have not yet spotted a mockingbird but the song of this bird was what caught my attention.
