Description:

Beetle brown and black with white dots.

Habitat:

Found on a shitake log I have inside. Not sure if came in with log or just a bugger that got inside.

It was about 3/4 inches long. If you look close you can see antennae of the front. It had the tough exterior like a beetle and the wings like a beetle. The wings reminiscent of a lightening bug. The back legs I couldn't get a really good look at but almost appeared like a grasshopper at first but it might have been the angle. It also could shimmy backwards. It really blended with the log! I've been going through pictures online and just can't find a match yet! I did look at the barklouse as you suggested but that appeared "fly-like" and the wings were not the same. Hmm...
Wow. I'm not even sure it is a beetle. Size? Big head and long, hair-like antennae make me think of a barklouse, but nothing else fits.
