Description:

The Ferruginous Pygmy Owl is a small owl that breeds in south-central Arizona in the United States, south through Mexico and Central America, to South America into Bolivia and Argentina.

Notes:

There are 4 species of Pygmy Owl found in Mexico, among them, the Ferruginous is the one commonly found more north, as well as being found in parts of Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. It's call can be heard at all times of day in central and south america. From a city urban area, to the tropical rainforest. This owl is thriving.

Yeah Tom, this was an endemic push. Having birded a bit of central America now, getting the common stuff just doesn't cut it. Had to make the push for endemics. Mexico is one of the best locations, next to Australia and New Zealand, it has one of the most endemics found in any country, spanning with just over 100 endemics found in Mexico, 30 of which can be found in a SINGLE morning birding San Blas!

Thanks Tom, I got Colima Pygmy as well, I'll have it up eventually. 5,600 images to sort through. Going to take a bit of time. We barely cleared 260 species this trip. With I believe around 40 Endemics.
