Field Notes
Description:
Average weight is 1kg, about 81 cm long from head to tail. Plumage mostly scarlet and rump and tail-covert feathers light blue, greater upper wing coverts are yellow, the upper sides of the flight feathers are of the wings are dark blue.
Habitat:
Humid lowland subtropical rainforest, open woodlands, river edges, and savannas. South American range is extensive and covers the Amazon Basin, extending to Peru and east of the Andes to Bolivia and Paraguay.
Notes:
IUCN classifies this bird as least concern. Their habitats are being fragmented but still have large numbers in South America.
