Field Notes

Description:

Small heron with gray-green upperparts. Head, neck, upper breast are chestnut-brown, belly is paler brown. Head has green-black cap with small crest. Throat is white and neck has white central stripe. Bill is two-toned with dark upper mandible and yellow lower mandible. Direct flight.

Habitat:

City maintained retention pond.

Thank you. There were a number of other shots in various poses. It was difficult picking between them.
Nice series of shots, they really show the different forms a green heron can take with it's flexible neck
