Male. I'd say a young male just coming into his color. The female is more of a blue-grey and the rust not as bright either.

Karen,the colors are suggestive of a female?
seems to be a fledgling. Can still see the fluff off Down feathers.in it's wings.
I was secretely hoping that this was Ms. Lazuli Bunting........
Looks like we clicked at the same time. I swear, everyone but me gets to see bluebirds! Love them!
