Field Notes

Description:

The genus Megapomponia contains the largest cicadas in the world. Possibly Megapomponia merula.

Habitat:

tropical rainforest

Notes:

Spotted in Tawau hills park. This genus contains the largest cicadas in the world and I can certainly attest to that. Some of them that I spotted were the largest I've ever seen and I've seen a lot of cicadas over the years in the tropics, but nothing as big as these.
