Coast Ballart

Great spotting ! could you please add information like habitat and size of plant and any other observation to complete this spotting. Thanks. This looks so different to the native cherry growing here. It is interesting to note that the although the plant in your spotting has some resemblance to the Cherry Ballart, the branchlets appear swollen as in salt-tolerant coastal succulents. I wonder if these support any invertebrate life forms.

I must remember to taste these ones next time we visit there :-)

Hi DeeSA. I think yours is Coast Ballart because of the location and the colour and prolific nature of the fruits. The Cherry Ballart is a bigger 'tree', only has sparsely distributed orange/red fruits and doesn't like being so close to the sea.

Nice close-ups. It was an aboriginal food Luis. It depends on a symbiotic relationship with native grass species so it's gradually disappearing from some areas.

They look like some kind of candy.
