Description:
Raised spots on the leaves maple trees (especially Red Maple Acer rubrum) resembling the trademark Target logo.
Maple Leaf Spot gall is formed by the fly midge Acericecis ocellaris.
Larvae develop in leaves of maples, usually Acer rubrum and usually in the spring. After a week in the leaf (during which time the gall is formed) the larva drops to the ground, burrows, and pupates. Adults emerge the following spring.

Spotted on a Red Maple (Acer rubrum) near a historic cemetery in Kennesaw GA.
