Field Notes

Description:

This red maple was planted almost a month ago in our school yard. It is 6 feet tall. Beginning to see leaves coming out, very tiny but they are there. Much around the tree to keep the moisture in the roots. Tree was planted by students of DCVI St.Mary's. Trunk is thin because tree is so young. A guard has been out on the bottom of the trunk to protect it from rodents and insects.

Habitat:

Red maples love the sun. This one was planted in direct sunlight and when big will provide a great shady spot and a home for birds and mammals.
