Description:
Breeding plumage.
Red on back of neck, brown mostly on upper parts with some gold color streaks. Flanks and breast also brown with white belly. Long thin bill.
Habitat:
This one was found in a marsh pond near the bay
Notes:
In SF bay these are considered rare, in the past there has been some off and on spottings. A few days ago the Dept of F&G did a count in Don Edwards Wildlife Perserve and came up with about 500 birds in the ponds.
