Field Notes

Description:

The adults are a chicken sized water bird with dusky black plumage, dark blue/purple breast, white undertail and a brilliant red bill and head shield. Their legs and feet are red/orange and they flick their tails up and down as they walk.

Habitat:

Fresh water swamps, dams, lakes, streams, marshes, etc.

Notes:

This is a chick that was exploring not far from the lake and adult Swamphens.
