Good luck! It's harmless to collect specimens for study since the mushroom is just the fruiting part of the mushroom. Like a seed. The book 'Mushrooms of Northeastern North America' is a great id tool.
Jared - I went back to check but couldn't find it. I will check in the future if I see another.
Does the mushroom have pores, teeth, or is it smooth under the cap?
