Field Notes

Description:

Approximately 27mm. This assassin bug was taking shelter behind a epiphyte leaf on an old log. Its colors help it camouflage as the brown colour matches the wood and the black matches the decayed wood color. The "horns" on its body may be for defense.

Habitat:

On a log on the forest floor of the Dipterocarp rainforest in Tawau Hills Park, Tawau, Sabah, Malaysia (Borneo).

Notes:

>>>Map accuracy: 100m diameter. Dan's spotting of it - http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/236796004 Special thanks to Michael Lee for the identification.
