Field Notes

Description:

Medium sized butterfly (45-50mm), highly variable in colour. Males have purple tips to their upper forewings; females may have orange, yellow, brown or black. There are separate wet-season forms and dry-season forms for both sexes also.

Habitat:

Open woodland and savannah.

Notes:

This is a female, wet-season form ione. Spotted in the Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve.
