Description:

Cabbage looper (Trichoplusia ni)

Habitat:

urban (backyard, on tomato a basil plants)

Notes:

It could also be a soybean looper (Pseudoplusia includens), unfortunately however, the two can only be distinguished by observing the characteristics of their inside surface of the mandible part of the mouthparts through a microscope.

I submitted a photo here of an adult Cabbage Looper, the moths blend in really well with tree bark!

great photo! I didn't know the only way to distinguish between a cabbage looper and a soybean looper was through examining the internal surfaces of their mouthparts. That's wild! Thanks for sharing!
