@Josh Thanks for the genus identification. I will attempt to get a face shot at some point when it's feeling less shy!
I can tell you it's definitely not a box turtle. It looks like a yellow-bellied slider, or at least some Trachemys species. The facial markings are what would give a positive ID. It's defintiely a North American species.
