Field Notes

Description:

Turkey sized bird. It is dark golden brown in colour and has a strange pointy head. It had yellow/orange legs.

Habitat:

Mossman Gorge, jungle area near a river. Queensland, Australia

Notes:

First we thought it was a Cassowary chick :-), because of its pointy head. But I knew it was probably to small for that especially because it was all alone in the jungle and seemed rather independent. Later we realised that the Cassowary is much much bigger. But it does have a similar face and head.
When we asked people of the Nature park they thought it was a brush turkey but looking at pictures of a brush turkey it did not look at all like one. So what is it?
