Field Notes

Description:

fat, smooth caterpillar, about 5cm

Habitat:

tropical rainforest

Notes:

I spotted this with Chun Xing Wong. We both walked past a tree then turned back to look and both noticed this caterpillar at the same time. It blends in well so wasn't that easy to see.

Thanks Chun, pretty technical description, I'll take your word for it.
http://www.mothsofborneo.com/part-15-16/erebini/erebini_1_3.php It kind of matches the larva description in this page.
Thanks Chun. I couldn't find any matches for E. ephesperis online, do you have any links? I didn't realize that about my pin, I just put it in the middle of the Tawau hills park on the map.
By the way, did you realized that this spotting is pinned right in the middle of a volcano in your map :-)
This may be the larva of Erebus ephesperis, the giant moth that poses on your LonelyPlanet book.
