Description:
Hosta is a genus of about 23–45 species of lily-like plants native to northeast Asia. Hostas are herbaceous perennial plants, growing from rhizomes or stolons,with broad lanceolate or ovate leaves varying widely in size. Leaf color varies from green,yellow green, or variegated. The individual flowers are usually pendulous, 0.75–2 in long, with six tepals, white, lavender, or violet in color and usually scentless. This species blooms in late summer and is sometimes known as "August Lily".
Habitat:
Hostas are considered shade-tolerant plants, but most do not thrive if grown in deep shade. Hostas grow best in an exposure with morning sun and afternoon shade. The recommended soil is well drained, has a slightly acidic pH, and is enriched both with nutrients and organic matter.
