Field Notes

Description:

Typical form. WS 26-37mm. Variable. Peppery wings are marked with toothed black lines, often heaviest on veins. Midpoint of ST area has two sharp wedges. Pale extremes are whitish with wide PM band. Melanics are sooty brown with white ST line. HOSTS: Various trees, including apple, birch, elm, hemlock, oak, poplar, spruce, tamarack, and willow.

Habitat:

Moth sheet close to mixed woodland and open field.
