Field Notes

Description:

To feed they swing their bills back and forth to catch invertebrates. They have the winter plumage with their heads being gray. During breeding season adult heads are a rusty color. The body is white and wings are black and white. They have dark, long, upturned bills and long light colored legs.

Habitat:

This single bird flew in and began feeding beside me at Lake Lewisville. It was so busy it let me photograph and take a short movie.

No otter. The lake is quite shallow right now with the drought, so lots of odd mud bumps, stumps and other things to spark an imagination. There is a small alligator a friend and I have been tracking for a year with no success other than foot print photos :)
lovely!! Was that an otter swimming by?
