Field Notes

Description:

Stout, pointed bill; glossy-black with red shoulder patch bordered with yellow.

Habitat:

Spotted in the larger beaver pond.

Notes:

Red-winged Blackbirds give more than 20 different vocalizations, a reflection of their complex social organization. Males have 18 different calls, females six. Four alarm calls are given by both sexes. The main song of the male is 'conk a ree'. Calls include 'chek' note and rattles.
