Field Notes

Description:

Costa's female has white to gray underparts and may have a purple spot in the center of her throat. Very hard to distinguish from Black-chinned and Anna's.

Habitat:

This was found in a canyon with creek running through it. Mostly spotted making rounds on the Tree Tabacco plants.

Anna's should have a straight bill. Black-chinned usually have a more contrasting crown (vs. Costa's). I'm not certain, but I think you may have been right with female Costa's.
