Species ID Suggestions

Comments (3)

It can be pretty hard to find nuances in details sometimes that lead to a correct ID. These birds really do look like mourning doves, with the exception of the collar. I ran into the same issue recently with a lizard. I was pretty sure what it was but the coloration was off a bit from the norm. That variation almost completely threw me as to the ID. This is the nice thing about Project Noah; people are ready and willing to help.
Thank you! I believe you are right! I'm still trying to figure out getting the right id on things.
Paul, You've got some really nice photos; I'm enjoying them very much. As to this species, I'm thinking these are not mourning doves but Eurasian collared doves. Take a look at http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Eurasian_Collared-Dove/id and see what you think. The collar on your birds are fairly obvious and I don't think a mourning dove would have such an obvious collar. Let me know what you think.
