Description:
It is an upright annual (sometimes biennial or perennial) native to most of North America. The plant can reach a height of 1 m. It has leaves 10-18 cm long, covered by coarse hair. It usually flowers from June to August.
Habitat:
open woods, gardens, fields, and roadsides. They grow quickly in just about any kind of soil.
Notes:
Black-eyed Susans are very competitive and can push other plants out of an area. Butterflies, bees, flies, and other insects visit flowers for nectar. If a fire burns down part of a forest, this plant will be one of the first to start growing.
