Field Notes

Description:

Family: Pompilidae. Possibly Anoplius sp.?

Parasitic wasp with its victim: a paralysed spider. The wasp flew off with the stunned spider, likely to its burrow where it will lay its eggs inside it. The young wasps will then hatch and devour the spider from the inside out. Such is life in the Amazon.

Habitat:

Secondary Amazon rainforest, Ecuador.
