Field Notes
Description:
Hoopoes are fairly common in Egypt but are nonetheless spectacular birds, with long curved bills, broad black-and-white wings and a large orange crest. They are notoriously difficult to photograph with a raised crest. In my experience, they will raise it for a moment immediately after landing, however I found that the sound of the velcro on my camera bag would startle them into raising it!
