Field Notes

Description:

A pale green katydid with black markings that is very well camouflaged when it sits on a common lichen that has the same coloring.

Habitat:

In an orange plantation in Northern Costa Rica, around 250m altitude It seems to mimic the appearance of a common and fast growing type of Lichen.

Congratulations SG in CR ! A great specimen for this wonderful mission.
Daniele, thanks for choosing my spotting. I've got a fairly large backlog of images I need to go through and I'm sure I'll have quite a few to add to the Paso Pacifico Survey when I do.
Congratulations SG in CR, we've chosen this brilliant spotting as our Spotting of the Day to highlight the Paso Pacifico Survey mission: "This remarkable Lichen-mimicking Katydid (cf. Lichenomorphus berezini) is our Spotting of the Day! This spotting is part of the Paso Pacifico Survey mission on Project Noah, which we would like to revitalize with help from our Costa Rica-based ranger Larry Graziano. The Paso Pacifico Survey mission is dedicated to conservation efforts throughout Central America’s Pacific slope, which boasts some of the world’s highest levels of biodiversity. Across short distances, landscapes transition from coastal-marine areas to tropical dry forests, and from tropical moist forests to fresh-water lakes and wetlands. So far this mission comprises over 3’600 spottings. The mission covers Pacific coastal areas from Southern Nicaragua to Northern Costa Rica. If you live or have travelled there we’d love to see your spottings!
