Habitat:

Walking path inside Lone Mountain State Forest

Notes:

Very large and very close. As we rounded a path we saw it was perched on a wooden directional sign, as we got closer, instead of flying away it swooped down onto the path in front of us. Then as we attempted to continue along the path it just Sat and glared at us. Spread it’s wings a bit. Never budged...so we turned around and backtracked instead.

Glad to hear it. It's amazing how some individuals are so cautious, while others can be so bold and indifferent to our presence. This is a fantastic spotting!

Neil Ross that was we wondered also, so we tried to investigate as best we could. We were told it was probably a juvenile, and it was likely protecting a meal he had there. He had seemed to fly fine when he first came down, so we hoped this was correct.
