This one likes aphids where the black ones tend to go to flowers
Thank You, that appears to be it. I didn't know Carpenter ants come in more than just black, I learnt something new!
It's a great photograph. There are thousands of species of ants so it will be difficult to determine to species. However, I'd suggest that it is a carpenter ant, perhaps Camponotus americanus, but that is only a guess. See http://bugguide.net/node/view/408652/bgimage for more information.
