Description:

Juvenile black snake with red belly and red eyes.

Habitat:

Found on forested road through swampy backwaters of Reelfoot Lake.

Notes:

These snakes are habitat specialists and live in swampy areas where their main food occurs. They feed on amphiumas, sirens and occasionally other amphibians and fish.

"As this is a sensitive species, and like all species, is worthy of our protection, the locality information has been altered to protect this organism."
