Field Notes

Description:

Golden colour, dark comma-shaped spots on its wings. large eyes. Has a long probosis, longer than its body length. Length: 30mm (aproximate).

Habitat:

Warm to hot place. River bank surrounded by thick forests.

Notes:

Like many other butterflies it had landed on this damp river bed, perhaps to feed on some minerals, but kept on moving from one area to another. There's a hydal project dam some 25km upstream which had let open in the night and closed by the early morning, that's why the water receding bank. (There's a bigger one already coming up at this place!)
