Field Notes

Description:

Evergreen groundcover rockrose. It stays low growing to only 1 to 2 feet tall and to 6 to 8 feet wide. It has gray-green leaves that are slightly wavy on the edges and have a felt-like appearance. It blooms in spring and well into summer with 2 inch wide, bright magenta flowers containing bright yellow stamens in the centers. Drought tolerant groundcover hardy to about 20° F. It can tolerate seaside conditions, drought, and it is said to be resistant to deer predation.

Habitat:

Xeric portion of wildlife habitat yard.
