Field Notes

Description:

These gorgeous birds are about 25–29 cm (10–11.5 in) in Texas and northern Mexico and slightly larger further south. Heads are blue and black, back is green with tinges of blue, below is yellow, tail is blue.

Habitat:

I photographed this individual in scrub forests in southern Texas. The area was adjacent to water and had larger trees spread throughout the brush.
