Field Notes

Description:

Tall plant with lance shaped leaves along stem with a cluster at the base, slightly toothed. Topped with clusters of tiny, white, four petaled flowers. Clusters begin flat (images 3 and 4 taken 4/27/13) and become rounded (image 2 taken 5/10/13) as more flowers bloom and mature . Flowers turn to flat, round seed pods with a notch (see images 1 and 6).

Habitat:

Suburban backyard.

Notes:

Though bitter, leaves are edible as well as sprouted seeds.

Jopy, that's it! It's not in my field guide or on any of the New York wildflower websites I have been able to find so you can understand my frustration! You are welcome to make the ID suggestion if you want.
