Field Notes

Description:

This subspecies of the water monitor inhabits mainland Southeast Asia, Singapore, Sumatra, Borneo, and smaller satellite islands. It is a large, common monitor lizard found in close proximity to water. This specimen was the shyest of the several monitor lizards observed, as indicated by the blurry motion photos. :-)

Habitat:

This monitor was observed crossing the path between tidal wetlands and a mangrove-lined channel in the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve (Singapore).

Notes:

These photos are generally in reverse chronological order. The map marker is not precise.
