Field Notes

Description:

Very large, pale Dobsonfly about 7 cm in length. Males often have extremely long mandibles. This had very short but strong mandibles and green eyes. The larvae are aquatic, living under rocks in lakes, streams and rivers. Family Corydalidae, Subfamily Corydalinae.

Habitat:

There were many of these clustered around the incandescent lights of the cabins of Las Guacamayas Eco-Lodge, Lacantun River, Chiapas. All were females.
