Field Notes

Description:

It's smallish ( 20cm ), brown and white, short bill, restless wader. Upperparts brown, flight feathers blackish, underparts white with a brown grey patch on side of breast. In flight white wing bar, lack of white rump and white barred outer tail feathers are distinctive. Iris - brown, bill - black, feet - pale olive green.

Habitat:

Breeds in Africa and Eurasia, but migrates south in autumn as far as Australia. A very common visitor which can be seen almost all year around on sandy beaches, mud-flats, paddy fields up 1500 m and along streams and river sides.
