Don't think it's a knee or knob. I poked it and it pierced easily. If it's a seed pod like I hope/think I'll know when I try and germinate it. Thank you for your comment!

Almost the size of a baseball. Very hard, almost like smooth wood with rough dimples. I found it near a cypress swamp that has many mixed trees around it!
