Description:

The Colima Pygmy Owl is a species of owl in the Strigidae family. It is endemic to Mexico. This owl is the smallest species of owl in the world, tying with the Elf Owl which is slightly lighter in weight (varying by 1-2 grams).

Notes:

Photographed in a place where the Ferruginous and Colima pygmy owls overlap during the breeding season.

This image will be featured in an upcoming book on the owls of North and Central America, date TBD

Thanks KD, these guys were actually not too hard to get on in Mexico, in San Blas, you could see Ferruginous Pygmy outside the hotel I stayed out.
