Field Notes

Description:

mostly white morph adults migrate through the Pacific Northwest. Black wing tips on white goose, black grinning patch at corner of pinkish bill, pink legs.

Habitat:

These spring migratory flocks are likely on their way to breed on Wrangell Island, Siberia. November is Snow Goose festival month at Reifel Bird Sanctuary, as these large flocks also make their way south through this area and stopover again for food and rest at this wonderful sanctuary. This is on Westham Island in the Fraser River estuary, Ladner, BC. So wonderful to see hundreds and hundreds of these geese making their way back to the Arctic to breed.
